I can't say with surety because I've never been in that situation.

But I think I wouldn't blame them. It still wasn't their choice or their action. The fact they gave up is something that will plague them, I can't imagine the guilt that comes with it.

Ultimately though, I don't know. The only real hurts from those I care about have been by distinct choices made which hurt me.
