You know, I've been thinking. If I were back home right now--[Leaving aside everything that had gone terribly wrong back home, dealing with the interdimensional parasite that had brainwashed his parents and wanted to feed off of him and his magic for hundreds of years, his missing brother, et cetera]--it'd be time for auditions for the spring musical. I think this year was supposed to be Bare, which would have been amazing, especially since it would've been senior year, so, my last chance at a lead role, you know?

Maybe you don't, I mean, I know a lot of people aren't from Earth, or from the twenty-first century, but that's not really the point, sorry, I'm getting distracted.

The point is, I miss music, and I miss theater, and even with learning self-defense and first aid and reading everything in the schoolhouse and foraging and all the things we need to do here to survive, I still end up with a lot of free time. So, I was thinking, I'd love to learn some new songs, and new dances, and new stories. I don't know if there're enough people here interested to justify putting on a show or anything, but I thought it might be fun to get people together to trade those sorts of things. Share parts of our cultures, you know? Anyway, if anyone's interested, let me know, we can work something out.

[Those who frequent the schoolhouse might run into one Billy Kaplan there after this broadcast, sorting through books on the shelves attempting to organize things by genre and/or season and trying to figure out what he has or hasn't read. If he isn't there, you might run into him in the inn grabbing lunch, or on the road heading to or from the eastern woods outside of town on a mushroom-hunting run. Wherever you find him, chances are he's humming under his breath, if not singing outright. What? It's been stuck in his head for a while now.]

Well, provided it isn't Loveless, I'd be happy to provide some assistance in ultimate planning. I've never tried my hand at designs for play things, but I could probably assist with sets if you ever get this up and running.

Oh man, North and I might be able to remember a few things from when he was in high school. If we can find paper I'd be happy to help him write them out for you!

[ frank is a semi-frequent visitor to the schoolhouse since he discovered it a few months back. it reminds him of the library at reims, just... less french. and less dangerous. besides, he never knows who he's going to run into there. aretha is with him today and she bursts through the doors with uncharacteristic energy to sniff out someone she recognizes. before frank can call her back, he sees the back of billy's head and smiles as he goes to join the boy by the shelves. he's wearing his hotdog sweater of course, an unzipped parka overtop as he lifts his hand to slot the book on masonry back into place that he'd brought back from home, the movement revealing his communicator's bright red. ]

What's that? [ he asks about the song, not recognizing it but thinking it'll probably be stuck in his head now, too. ]

So you're Billy, right? I need a talk with you.

That would be great! I don't know if I've met North, or you. I'm Billy. Where are you guys from?

Don't think I know that one, but I totally understand. Cats is basically the bane of my existence.

I know it's kinda silly, but I really, really hope we do. I think it's just as important to be able to relax and unwind a little, you know? Especially after a stressful month like this last one, and I can't be the only person here who loves a good story.

Space. North doesn't have a home planet anymore. I think my origin ultimately goes back to Earth.

[The sudden sound of paws gallumphing across the floor makes Billy turn, and when he sees Aretha skidding towards him Billy kneels with a grin, ruffling the dog's ears and giving her plenty of skritches before he looks up at Frank, offering him that same grin. Billy looks a little different from the last time they met; a little more confident and self-assured, maybe, less nervous and not at all embarrassed to be caught singing.]

Loveless was a bit of an overly popular thing. And led to some issues in the past.

It's not silly. It's not silly if you like this sort of thing. I love folklore stories about fae. So it's what it is. And I love stories. A friend of mine is writing some of his experiences as stories.

[Well that's. Weird. And ominous. But hey, sure.]

Yeah, that's me. What's up? Did Tommy do something?

No, it is about Nida. Can we meet up and talk face to face?

Nida? Is he okay??

[The concern is automatic, overwhelming. He'd just seen him the day before, but still.]

Yeah, that's fine, where do you want to meet?

Yeah, yeah he is ok. How about the fountain? In half an hour?

[ It is a good neutural spot ]

Good.

Yeah, that's fine. I'll see you there.

[He's never met Bull before, but he is hard to miss, what with the horns and all, so Billy's not really worried about spotting him as he heads to the fountain a little early. It's cold out, and he's pretty bundled, hood up and wool jacket tightly buttoned, a red scarf wrapped around his neck. Hands in his pockets, Billy waits by the fountain for Bull to show up.]

I've heard of it. [ the show. he's just never seen it. frank smiles softly at the dog interacting with billy, he seems a little different himself. less stressed, maybe. ] Is it your favorite?

I took ballet, gymnastics and tap for years, and did some acting too. Do you have Wendy the Werewolf Stalker where you're from?
There was a whole musical episode and everything. But. They did not have me sing, and neither should you or anyone, because I took voice lessons as a kid and that was the only lesson where my teacher basically told my mother I was a lost cause and Mom actually let me be bad at.

[ Bull takes some time to bundle up. He is still shirtless but at least he has that heavy jacket on him. And buttoned. He's left the axe at home, this is not that kind of talk. At least he doesn't anticipate that it will be.

He smiles when he sees Billy. Ok, he can see Nida's point. The boy is a looker. ]

Say no more!!! I'm so in!!! I have so many dances I can teach you! And stories! Maybe throw in some songs too if you're down to learn them in other languages?? Since I bet we listen to the same pop songs.

[Billy offers a small smile of his own in return, lifting a hand to wave as Bull walks up. He does look curiously at the Qunari, but he doesn't seem at all shocked or intimidated.]

Yeah, sure, it's no problem. You said it was about Nida?

[That concern is still there. Even if Nida's fine, he still worries, especially lately.]

Yeah, or more specifically about you and him.

[ He gives the other a quick smile. ]

I consider Nida a good friend and I'd like to know the people who are important to him. [ That is at least not entirely a lie. ] And I got a feeling you are.

Oh.

[Well, that isn't what he was expecting. At all. But okay. Nida's got someone calling him a good friend, and he knows how tough a word that can be for him to deal with. He's not gonna do anything to screw that up, especially not now. The smile on his face as he thinks about Nida and the day before is soft, a little dreamy, and it carries into his voice as well.]

Guess I am. And he's important to me. I'm glad he's got people calling him a good friend, he deserves more of those. So--what do you want to know?

More about you, about you and him and about how you intend to play this out with him?

[ Bull gives him a warm smile but there is something in his tone, a hint of warning of threading carefully, maybe. ]

[...Oh. That's what this is. Billy doesn't smile back at that, instead giving Bull a considering look. Other times he might have just caved, spilled everything in an effort to gain approval, but honestly? He's not really a fan of just how Bull's phrased that, like he's already expecting Billy to screw up. To not be good enough. He's had enough of that from his own brain, thanks. His tone is polite enough when he answers, but the words are blunt.]

I don't know what you mean by playing this out, because I'm not playing at anything. What Nida and I have isn't a game to me. The two of you are friends, and that's great, and whatever he decides to share with you about us is his right. If you want to be friends with me too, that's awesome. But if you just came here to decide if I'm good enough for Nida, let me save you some time: probably not, but that's not gonna stop me from trying to be.

[ Bull smiles at that answer, the kid got guts, he will give him that. ]

Good. What I am the most interested in is if you're going to hurt him, or if you two are not on the same page. [ If this was just a game to Billy. He is not entirely sold that it isn't but for now, he'll give him the benefit of the doubt. ]

Seems like you are on the same page though.

Maybe I will. Maybe he'll hurt me. Things happen, we aren't perfect. We'll probably make mistakes. But that's a stupid reason not to try, and he and I are in this together. And no offense, but whatever happens is between us.

[It's just a fact. Of course, he'd rather die than hurt Nida, but that's not the point.]

Does he know you're doing this? Giving me the 'if you hurt him' speech?
