Good afternoon. For those who were interested in meeting for a 'Stitch & Bitch' session - or more simply a chance to meet for some fiber arts activities and general discussion, I have everything set up for a meeting starting after lunch, in House 53.

I'm not sure what materials people have been able to find so far, so this may just be more discussion and less yarning, but if anyone has any supplies they would like to donate beforehand for newcomers, let me know.

I was wondering if anyone had experience with the fauna here? I'm looking for a pet for my friend, but it needs to be special.

what kind of pet is your friend interested in? i have four purple llamas and a reptilian dog. oh and a real, fluffy puppy, but i dont think hes native.

He's actually not interested in a pet; habitually animals have never really taken to him and he's afraid any pet he'll get won't like him, but he can benefit from some companionship of the non-human variety. Do you know if any of the ones you have available are more accepting than others?

Also, unrelated to said friend, are you willing to part with your zalpacas fleece? I'm trying to organize production of yarn and fleece is, well, pivotal.

oh! the reptilian dog! i was wandering around way beyond the villages when he found me and he hasnt left me since. hes very loyal and very friendly. i think his species is like that. you could try one of them. they look a little strange compared to a lot of other species here, but theyre really cute and really friendly.

sure! i need to make sure they can survive the winter, too, but i was thinking their wool would make good mittens or blankets or scarves. i dont know if we have the right equipment for all of that though.

A reptilian dog. That's definitely a new one to me, but it's worth looking in to. Probably would be a better fit for him than the peacock cats.

Yes, I don't want you sacrificing any of your zalpacas, that wouldn't do for the long-term and they're yours to begin with - but I think it would be important for those who are fiber-works inclined to join forces for the greater winter goods.

What equipment would you need?

umm shears to begin with. i could use any kind of scissors as long as theyre sharp. i dont want to have to pull the wool out. i dont know how they would react to it.

They're kinda prissy, standoffish, willing to cuddle but only on their terms

so basically what you'd expect from a cat?

I guess, if you're willing, I will take one that seems less aloof than the others (if that's even possible). If it doesn't warm up to him, I'll take it.

It's worth a shot. They do scare easy, so it might not be the fastest process.

Well, at the very least I know how to handle cats, a I will make sure my friend takes it easy with them.

I want this to be open to people of all levels, so you are absolutely welcome, Bobo. I don't quite have the sewing skills myself, but there might be someone else around who could be more useful for you in that regard.

Worst case scenario; we find a book in the library and you and I learn on the fly together.

But you're right - there are very few ways to die from sewing, that I know of.

I don't normally condone bringing in wildlife, but domestication seems pretty inevitable for a lot of the species here. If the peacock cats aren't what you're looking for, the "crocodile dogs" are really something special.

You can find them around the river, and it takes effort not to have one follow you home.

Can't help you with raw materials just yet, but I've been trying to remember what I learned about spinning when I was young and annoyed about it, so I might be able to help you on the yarn front.

And Tones will tell you I'm real strong on bitching.

I think we've all been thrown into this a little too close to winter to properly set it up in a leisurely manner in regards to supplies, but whatever steps we can accomplish I think will be pushing us in the right direction.

That is good to hear; glad we'll have a strong front covering the bitching section of the evening.
