i've only ever used a crossbow. how hard do you think it would be to shoot with a bow instead?

It's all about shoulder and arm strength. The more you can pull back the arrow, the harder and further it flies

Crossbows are a lot easier to load than that, but you can definitely try it and see if it works for you
