All right, head count: how many of you are showing abnormal (for you) symptoms, what are they, and how long have they been going on? I have herbal remedies I can offer to help the symptoms until we figure out what's really causing it all and I'm happy to do house calls. Don't hesitate to let the medical staff know if you need one of us to come check on you.

I'll see if I can make a trip to the spring today to at least gather some to test.

Did it freeze over last winter, do you know?

Not that I remember, but this will be our first winter in this location. There's no telling what will happen.

Right, because you haven't been in this place for long. I'd say assume the worst.

I hate to take that mindset, but it might be a good idea for now. We'll just have to hope that it isn't the worst case scenario when we get there.

I think preparing is all we can do.

Is there anything we can do to help?

At this point, I'm not sure. Do you know of anyone else who's sick? If we know everyone who's showing symptoms, we might be able to keep ahead of this before it becomes an epidemic.

Would you rest better somewhere else? Do you have someone who can keep an eye on you?

[ she isn't taking any chances that this might be more than just a little cold or flu. or that some of her patients might not take care of themselves if left to their own devices. ]

[Whether or not she actually will is another matter. But either way, that's a bridge to be crossed if and when it comes up, and not before.]

I should note my doctorate is in zoology and veterinary science specializing in herpetology. But my grasp of epidemiology is sound.
Please, let me know what I can do to help.

You should speak to the person calling themselves Barnes on the network, they claim to have some immunity to the infection. He mentioned living through a snake bite a while back- hallucinogenic but survivable, as well as an attack by a wendigo. It's possible the venom, or bacteria carried by the snake, or something in the wendigo's system acted as inoculation.
Given that I have a lot of experience capturing and handling venomous snakes, I'd like to look into that possibility of treatment first. And even if it's not a viable treatment, having some on hand for milking for antivenom would be useful eventually, I'm sure. Once we figure out refrigeration, anyway.
