So I've been wondering about something! IDK I thought maybe you guys might be able to help?? Since I'm 90% sure you're all much older than me. Does anything really change when you turn 17?? Like I know I'm closer to legally being an adult... in the United States in my version of reality. TBH, I feel like that already happened back in that other place. I learned to hunt, how to make sure people tinier than me didn't starve to death or something else super awful, how to make sure the total strangers I lived with didn't kill each other and the rest of the community (harder than you think!), and stuff like that. For some reason the horrible stuff seems more adult. Learning how to knit didn't make me feel like a grown up. Weird.

I'm so off topic. Anyways! What else is there???? There's gotta be something, right???

I can't speak to wherever this United States is, but I guess in my world it varies. Some kids were still in school and you're not actually an adult for another year. Granted by that time I had a lot of training in fighting and was working toward my first merc exam and...

Yeah, no it doesn't really going to feel very different. Not that eighteen is much different either.

You've already done a lot. Learned to hunt, helped people survive, kept people safe from each other, sounds like you're already an adult. A better one than a lot of other people.

Thanks. I didn't realize it until I started typing it up, but I'm a lot different now. I guess I don't always feel that way because I still scream at cute things and take naps everywhere.

What's it like to go merc school??? I didn't know that was a thing!

<font face="courier>Well, who doesn't want to take naps when they can? And cute things are cute. Own who you are. Uh... Well, Garden was pretty busy. You live there while you learn. Lots of combat classes. Tactics. Magic. Specializations too. I was busy from about five in the morning until about three with classes, and after that it was about training and research and homework. Exams are a bit difficult too.</font>

You're not exactly right about it being worth it for magic. The way that we can access magic means sacrificing memory. Not always the best trade.

I wonder if we have a neurologist here. You should ask around the hospital. Maybe someone can help you recover some of what you've lost.

I wish it could be fixed, but some of the people who helped create the magic that did this tried looking into it. But still nothing. So let's focus on things you can fix. What needs done around the village?

Okay! Well when we're going to need to keep preparing for winter! That means preserving food, fortifying our homes, making weather-appropriate clothing.......... etc.

I'm not experienced in preserving food. I mean, I learned to scavenge plants in forests, have to figure out what to get, though. What about Fortifying homes? What would that mean?

Real talk: that would be a really long conversation that we should have in person. That's like asking how you build a house. There's a lot that goes into it like heating, food supplies, tools, etc. I'd have to check out your house and consult with my horror bff to make sure I got everything too.

I meant helping other people. I'm not as worried about my own place. I'm sure Squall and I can figure something out about that.

Oh! Just help people do that. :) It's really hard! So getting them prepared would really lessen that burden for a lot of people. Keep an eye out for stuff like mining expeditions or when we need to go catch poisonous snakes to save the sick. It comes up more often than you think.

Yes, but don't hurt them! They're probably just scared. :(

Scared? Yeah, no. One jumped me earlier today. Froze me solid. Altair had to melt the ice before I suffocated or my heart stopped. And the thing came after me. I don't think so.

Uh... Yes okay. No on the doctor? I mean, not the first time I've been frozen. Just the first time it lasted so long.

You're really casual about the whole frozen thing. Does this really happen a lot to people who take merc tests???

I come from a world with magic. Ice spells aren't usually that intense, but it happened more often. And yeah, it does.

Right. Well I'm glad your friend saved you. I guess we're going to need to keep an eye out for those guys now.

Yeah... well not my friend, not yet. I think I could be but... Anyway, they're annoying. But they don't come into the house so there's that much.
