Good afternoon all, my name is Reeve and I thought it would be prudent of me to share in a bit of good fortune which I have awoken to this morning. I do not know where it came from, but it seems I was the recipient of a box containing some supplies I have noticed are a bit lacking around here.

Which is to say paper.

A lot of paper.

In fact, a full two reams of white paper. That's 1000 pages for anyone who has not spent the majority of their lives in an office environment.

A thousand sheets can go a rather long way, and while I intend to retain a portion of this for my own work (among other things I'm a trained architect and city planner and hope to put this to use for our betterment), I would like to share in this bounty. So the question is whether there is a call for paper for anyone? I will admit I'm woefully short on writing utensils and cannot as easily let those out of my possession, but I'm sure we can improvise a suitable solution. I do not doubt that creation of ink will be possible, and from there the creation of at least quills may be viable.

And there I am, getting off subject.

Basically I have paper to spare and would be happy to see it used. Would anyone be interested in such?

ETA: Ah, it occurs to me that while I have attention, I am happy to share my services with anyone who might require them. Are there things that may need built or designed for building? I could also help with drawing up designs for other devices if you have a knowledge of how they should be shaped/function. I cannot guarantee those as high of quality, but my assistance is yours.

I've got a few feathers laying around. Been a lot of years but I can see if I can still fashion a quill or two.

Ink can be made from candle soot. I remember seeing family members do that when I was young. Will have to experiment with binding agents. I can't remember what they used.

Ah, I wish I could provide insight into that, but I fear I cannot. Even when I was a kid buying pre-made ball-point pens was something my family did. I don't think I know anyone who ever created their own ink. And I expect ball-point pen ink is different.

When I was a child, those things never existed, so you found ways to get around what you couldn't buy. I can try it, see what I can manage. If nothing else, soot is fairly readily available.

Well then you would be a rather wonderful man, if you were to do that. Paper without something to write on it would be of little use.

Is there a means by which I can assist you with that?

Well there's words I've never heard.

I have the tallow for candles and they'll create more smoke. Collecting it on plates is the longer process. So could use help with that.

We'd probably want to collect with metal plates, but accelerating the use of finite resources for ink seems less than intelligent. I can be patient.

Makes sense. Could use anything metal, honestly. Pans or bowls. Whatever we can scrounge. Not as if it changes the use of them.

I will work on the tallow candles over the next day or two and should be on our way to a supply of ink fairly soon though.

That sounds like an eminently valuable task. I would be happy to see paper into your hands, even one of my few pencils. Alas I only have one sharpener so I fear you'd have to sharpen it with a knife.

Will you be seeking to bind the pages together? I wonder if we have materials to that end.

I don't mind using a knife and the one journal I did have is nearly full.

I'm sure I can also worry about binding the pages. I have needle and thread, I'm sure that will be enough.

Oh, the question there was merely academic, though I suppose learning how to turn bundles of paper into something like a book would be an interesting process.

What would you say to about thirty pieces to start with? Front and back that would give you sixty pages to work with, and that's if you chose not to fold them.

It isn't very difficult. Bindings were threaded before the invention of glue.

Really? I suppose I shouldn't be surprised. I just find myself curious about how one would do it. I've looked closely at enough books to tell that things we bound in little groups and those groups into bigger chunks, but I never could figure out how each group was bound to the others. I suppose from a basic standpoint you can only put to many into a little group, given how each subsequent layer when folded would end up being further set back from the outer edge.

Alright, a bundle of paper and a pencil. Would you prefer delivery or pick up?

And now I almost feel like I should be asking if you'd like your 'purchase' in a paper or a plastic bag.

Well to arrange a trade such as that, one would have to be aware of what skills and services you offer.

And if you would pardon my curiosity, what exactly is an Antivan? Just looking at the word would make me think it was some sort of antique.

Antiva is a country in my homeland- hardly an antique. To be Antivan is to be fashionable, romantic, passionate, full of color, warmth, life and flavor.

I do a little barbering, hairstyling, massage, cooking, mending, repairing, note taking, etc.

Barbering you say? And hair styling? I admit I am beyond due for a bit of a trim, things were a bit hectic for the last few months. And I didn't make much time for it before that. I would presume that you don't have an electric razor.

Well, I would see it an agreeable trade if you would be willing to assist with a hair cut. I think my facial hair is sufficiently trimmed for the time being. How much paper for a style then?

Greetings, sir. As I know not all can read my native tongue, please allow me to introduce myself: I am Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad. In my life, I have crafted a great many quills and made a great lot of ink. I can instruct you in both in exchange for a measure of your paper, and I may also be able to point you in directions that would suit your profession.

Sayyida Margaery, for instance, is in need of a true barn for her animals. Some roofs here in the village were damaged and need repair. There is a location between here and a site we've used for a mine that could use a true bridge. I am certain there are more such uses than I can name.

Already, I am grateful for your skills and promise what aid I can.

I think there may be someone else who would be interested on the quills thing, but I would not mind lessons myself. I tend to go through writing implements quickly. The trade seems quite good by my reckoning, Mister Ibn-L'Ahad.

A barn you say. I shall see if I can seek her out to determine what specific needs she will need filled. As for roofs, indications of where in town the structures are would be useful so I could ascertain how far the damage is, whether there are structural issues to address, and then how best to address the problems. I'll work on the general plans for restoring the house I saw was burned down.

For bridge plans I would need to study a few things. The best option would be if I could be shown where this site is. I'll need string and a weight to gauge depth, flow, a few other factors before I can determine the best solution and building methods. I presume from the wood focus here that we have no access to concrete or sufficient steel. Which would mean stone or wood. I'll need to consider material strength, load needs and the like. And depending on weather patterns work on that may not be viable for a while. Putting in a bridge when flow may increase due to spring melt could be an issue.

I am planning to soon ask for those who can to make observations of such things as general temperature, depth of the river, amount of precipitation, the position of the stars and course of the moon. Such things will also aid you in predicting the river's flow, but as I have only just begun these measurements, I cannot give you much more information than that. Some odd circumstance has meant that much data that was previously collected is now all but null. As I gather more information, all will be welcome to it.

I would want to start taking regular measurements of the river at the relevant point in a daily manner, to process it. How long of a span?

Oh, and the barn, I would like to know where to go to meet the person who needs it. There will be specifications to acquire there.

Do you know if there is a source of stone? Not cut of course. More like field stone. Nice large rocks.

As I cannot swim, I did not and cannot measure the span myself. I would be willing to assist in the effort, however.

I am not familiar with the term field stone. However we did recently open the mine and there will be stone detritus from the activity there if that will assist.

Cast off from a mine is typically smaller than would be valuable to my usage, except as a filler material. I may consider that if there is a way to transport it back.

But yes, I will most likely require many details. But much of what I need will be determined after I see the proposed site.
