War?
[ If it was, all the better that they "fixed" it. ]
no subject
[ An attempt at finding the silver lining woven into this village. Sort of. ]
no subject
[ Shitty that it's started up again. But they won once; they should be able to again. ]

What's 2547 like?

[ It's an automatic, honest response. One that doesn't even begin to encapsulate the horror humanity has suffered through during decades of war.
How does he summarize such a thing? ]
Genocidal aliens. Humanity's losing war.
[ Nothing like being blunt, right? ]

[ Squint a little and that might have been her world, if the generation before her hadn't won the Omnic Crisis. ]
How long has it been going on? The war.
no subject
22 years.
[ Most of Maine's life. He remembers nothing before it. ]
Need advancements to win. Armor. Weapons.
no subject
[ And there's one word, there, that piques her curiosity especially— ]
What kind of armour?
no subject
When she asks about armor, he sets those thoughts aside. ]
Combat exoskeleton. Increases strength, durability, speed, agility. Everything. Makes you better.
[ Coming from Maine, that's a veritable speech. But he's not quite done: ]
Temperature controlled, too.
[ Yeah, he has to mention that. Because fuck this cold weather. ]

[ On the other side of the network, Brigitte has started sitting up straighter, now staring more intently down at her wrist device. The reason for this sudden interest becomes apparent a moment later, her enthusiasm spilling over: ]
I maintained and repaired suits of power armour, back home. It was a huge exosuit that could deploy barrier shields. Our temperature control wasn't the greatest though; the heat sinks are a huge pain in the ass and keep blowing out in hot environments, but the armour was good in the cold. I built my own suit based on those designs, it's not as good obviously, but I've been trying to make the design work for someone more my size. Does yours have built-in weaponry or is it mainly personal enhancements?
no subject
At the end of the day, Maine's job isn't to create the armor: it's to wear it, test it in the field, and — if something goes wrong — potentially die in it. ]
Enhancements. Some have shields.
[ And some have other things. Maine won't go into specifics, but... ]
Could draw it.
[ If she wants to see what a suit looks like. Not like someone could find a weakness based on something he sketches. ]
no subject
Um, sorry about that. I get a little excited. But I would love that, thank you! It'll be interesting to see how someone else approached the problem, even if it's just a sketch.
[ It's not like she can get her hands on Reinhardt's Crusader armour again anytime soon to make alterations, but. Just in case, just in case. She keeps operating as if someday she'll see home again. And then, since she's not impolite enough to say because you're massive, but because the question's relevant to her interests too: ]
Did it fit well?
no subject
[ Honestly, he'd like to know more. He thinks that he could learn a lot from Brigitte, if she'd be willing to teach him. Or if she'd be willing to just talk about it more while he's around. Either way, he's just fine with the excitement.
As for how well it fit? ]
Second skin.
[ He could've said it fits like a glove, but it's far more than that. When he's wearing it, it feels like his armor is part of him.
... Fuck, he misses it. ]
no subject
I get it. Maybe not as much as you, but I got used to that feeling of protection, you know? I miss my shield most, I think. I'm working on forging a replacement but it's not really the same without the projected barriers. The new metal-only version's heavier than I'm used to.
no subject
[ An offer made quickly and freely. She knows what he looks like; he doesn't need to spout off qualifications. And, while it won't replace what she's missing ... maybe it'll help.
(He wants to help her.) ]
no subject
[ The offer is a pleasant surprise; it takes her aback for a moment, a warmth suffusing in her chest before she recovers. And there is, of course, the fact that Brigitte knows exactly how to work out with someone his size -- and misses it, desperately. Her regular sessions with Danny are valuable, but don't quite compare. ]
Do you know the dojo? I go there, most mornings. You can draw things for me, I can try to lift you. :)
[ Har, har. ]
no subject
[ Well, he thinks it's funny. ]
No. Sign out front?
[ It's a joke in turn; he doesn't think there would be. (Lucky for him that he's wrong.) ]
no subject
You know, believe it or not: there is. 'Crane Dojo'. Northeast side of the village, you cannot miss it, though it's the size of a normal house.

Start tomorrow?
