Since the medical staff keeps changing, I'd like a head count. If you have any kind of medical training - field medic, nurse, doctor, or anything in between even if it's just that you helped out in a crisis - would you mind letting me know? Even if I already know what you can do. You can tell me privately, if you'd rather. If you have skills, but would rather not be called on unless there's a crisis, let me know.

On that note, if anyone would like, I was thinking of offering medical classes. Honestly, the more people we have here who can respond in a crisis at all levels, the better all around. So if you're interested in medical lessons, let me know what you want to learn. Field medicine, triage, nurse, doctor. Or if you already know a few things and would like to help me teach, that would be wonderful as well.

i was a marine. [ and more to the point he's stitched himself up more than a couple times. ]

stitches resetting dislocated bones that kinda thing

I mean, clearly I've got basic triage and first aid. Nothing complex.

The ankle's doing better, btw. The hotspring water is great for it.

I'm a Marine trained field medic. I mean, my techniques are WAY too out of time for this place, but I could probably brush up on stuff if you're willing to teach.

The biome here is really different so I'm not too sure on what will apply and what won't, but I used herbs and plants used in cooking to treat most common ailments. Like illnesses, inflammation or food poisoning. I don't know if that will help.

I am Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad and though I know my own time to be far before many here, I have knowledge that would apply to the circumstances here. I aided as I could with the illness that swept through the village not so long ago, and I am familiar with attending wounds. My greatest obstacle here has been the unfamiliarity of herbs and lack of certain compounds which I would use to treat illnesses and injuries alike. I can read English, but I admit that it causes me a measure of confusion and headache, which is also why I tend to answer these messages verbally rather than by writing.

If there are resources on hand for any native herbs which have similar properties to those we may be more familiar with, I will be glad to learn more, and share what I know with any who are curious. I have a background of teaching and instruction, and I learn quickly.

I do hope to be of aid.

If you do classes, I'd love to learn anything you can teach. I've just been studying the books on beginner first aid and triage that I've found in the schoolhouse.

Yes. The more people who are willing and able to help, the better. I'm happy to teach all levels. We'll figure out a time that works best, whether you'd rather one-on-one or small groups, and go from there.

Good. Glad to hear it. Although... I may need a translation for "btw."

I've actually got a herbal garden started here with various plants we use to supplement the medicine stock at the hospital. Your knowledge would be a great help, especially in identifying any of this planet's native flora.

[ even just having people to go "that looks familiar" or "i have no earthly clue what that even resembles" is a help. ]

If you'd like to learn anything about what I have or the native plants we've already run across here, I'd be happy to teach you. Mark Watney is another good botany resource as well.

I'm guessing we don't have biofoam. But I can suture, set bones, things like that. I'd be happy to try and piece together viable options for here. One on one is probably best because, well... Theta gets distracted.

It seems like a lot of us are unfamiliar with the native flora on this planet, so we're all sort of learning as we go in that respect. But any sort of botanical or herbal knowledge is a great help, I think. Even if we can just narrow down what a plant looks like, that puts us closer to figuring out what we don't know.

I can tell you what I'm aware of so far, or I would think Mark Watney would be happy to jump in. He's another excellent botany resource. I do have an herbal garden by my house here that is primarily used as medicine. I'd be happy to show you the stores we have from that.

That's a great start. I'll mark you down as interested in lessons.

Awesome, thanks. The books are pretty helpful, but it's hard to just process everything as a collection of facts, you know? I mean, I can cram with the best of them, but it's easier when you have someone helping you put everything in context.

Oh, this is perfectly-timed! I had just been spending more time at the infirmary and thinking I should get involved. I'd like to help with putting together some kind of rota, too? So that there's always someone 'on-call' for a particular day, so people won't have to scramble looking for a doctor. [ It had happened, after all, with John having to rummage through medical supplies by himself. ]

I'm Brigitte. I have field medic and triage experience too. Not super-advanced, but enough to keep people going.

I have some knowledge of first aid, but I was expecting to use it in combination with magic... and herbs that I'm not sure exist in this place. I'd like to expand my knowledge.

Has anyone begun a record of what the effects of native plants are? If not, provided I can get the supplies, I would be willing to put effort toward that. I have written many books in my time, and to begin to do the same here would give me a bit more to do of the nights.
