First point: if we know each other, can you please let me know you made it safely back to the village? This is faster than me running around knocking on everyone's doors and camping out on your front steps until I confirm it myself. (But I will do that too if you don't respond, jsyk.)
Second point: Does anyone have any experience or tips about the area to the south? Landmarks, wildlife, plants to avoid, things like that.
[FILTERED TO: THOR]
I'm sure you can take care of yourself, but you count as part of that check-in too, fyi.
Also, in better news, this is me telling you I need to take your measurements. (Don't make it weird, it isn't weird.)
[FILTERED TO: MAINE]
[ A pause, a consideration, as she weighs the fact that he lives up north and she'll be out of town for a bit too— ]
You've been helping me train this whole time, but I promise I have not forgotten our deal! When's the next time you're going to be in town?

As for south, there's an abandoned area down that way that seems to have once been a village. I went down that way recently. It's got some salvageable items that might be used by those here.
no subject
And huh, good to know, thank you! I'll take a look on the way down if we manage to come across it.
no subject
It's an easy walk, and not very stable once you get there, but if you want company, let me know. I've been considering getting away from the village for a bit myself.
private
We're going on Saturday. There'll be a few of us but if you don't mind the walk again, we could always do with more hands. There'll be some construction down at the farm, too, if you don't mind working up a sweat.
private
I never mind. I was raised to put in the work needed. Even if I prefer the city.
private
[ It's hard to tell through text, of course, but she's probably teasing. ]
private
[Obviously he can't help himself either.]
And what experience do you have in the wilds?
private
And a bit! We were driving around in a van -- did they have cars yet, in your time? -- so it wasn't always on foot, but we were often out in the European countryside, having to camp or stop over at little villages. We were out there more often than we were ever in cities, so I'm okay with it.
private
We had carriages. Drawn by horses. I suspect you don't mean a train car either. I was raised in a village, in the English countryside.
I hope to never return.

I haven't done much exploring outside of the villages and the bunker. And the places we all walked around on our way back. Are you planning on taking a trip south?
no subject
And I am! Reeve is organising a trip to the farm, and needed some protection. I know you can handle yourself pretty well, want to come with? If you are not completely burnt out on hiking, that is. I'd understand if you are.
no subject
Of course. Do you know when he's planning to go?

What does 'jsyk' mean?
Oh, and yes, I've been south a bit. Not directly south. South along the river. To the southern farm site. I think you'd be well advised to ask people who have been there. Not me of course, my blue powers have done well at keeping me quite safe from running into any wildlife or places worth avoiding.
no subject
'Just so you know'! And I can totally imagine that's a super useful power to have, although not as useful for knowing about the threats if you've been lucky enough to just walk around them the whole time...

You are so kind!! I am so very fortunate to have a friend like you, checking in on me and ensuring that I am all right! Thank you! :D
After an ordeal, we have all returned to the village a little worse for wear.
[That is to say .. Thor has been injured somewhat, but he's still alive, and it's nothing that won't heal with time.]
Measurements? Why do you need my measurements? OH! IS IT FOR THE ARMOR THAT YOU MENTIONED? I AM SO EXCITED! I LOOK LIKE THIS CURRENTLY: :D :D (ONLY WITH ONE FACE INSTEAD OF TWO, BUT I WAS TOLD THAT USING MORE THAN ONE SHOWS EXTRA EXCITEMENT). I AM UNSURE OF HOW TO TAKE THESE, BUT PERHAPS YOU COULD HELP?
Fondly: Thor
OOC: We're still threading the One-Man Show event, so I'm trying to be vague ... all I know is that Thor's getting injured!
text | private
It is the armour, yeah! I don't expect that you have the numbers memorised, so next time we're both in the smithy you will just have to stand very still and I'll do a fitting for the chestplate. (And then you will have to define 'a little worse for wear'.)
Fondly: Brigitte
[ She's familiar with men who brush off the truth about their actual physical state, and the fact that she's not likely to get an honest answer on the network. But that's fine. As long as everyone responds, that's okay. They work at the same place, she'll be able to check in properly sooner or later. ]

ARMOR! I CANNOT ACCURATELY TELL YOU HOW MUCH EXCITEMENT IT BRINGS ME!
Also, do you think it would be possible for me to see how it is that you go about making it? You don't have to explain everything to me, but I would like to watch your process! It might be helpful in case we ever need to outfit the village with armor for .. some .. unforeseen ... attack ... or something. Or just because everyone should have a beautifully hand-crafted set of armor! What a magnificent gift!
You do not need to worry about me, Brigitte! I may not be a god any longer, but I have kept all my battle prowess and knowledge! I was with my brother, Loki, and my ex-girlfriend, Jane, both of whom are also very adept at fighting! And Jane was a human before, unlike me and Loki, so she had that to her advantage.

-- and wait, your brother is here too? Like Loki Loki, god of mischief, fathered a giant wolf, Loki?
PS. You know you do not have to write this thing like a letter each time, right?

I know that it is not required to address you and sign these, but I find them nicer that way. If you'd rather me not, however, I will do as you wish!
Yes, I do believe there would be others here who would be familiar with wearing heavy metal armor, and would appreciate it! And based on the sorts of things that happen here, at least the stories that have been told to me, it is not a bad idea to have something to protect ourselves.
[He writes out and erases many responses to Brigitte's questions about his brother, but he eventually settles on:]
That is HILARIOUS, and I'm going to make fun of him for that story whenever I can. Who did he father the giant wolf WITH? Another wolf? I knew my brother was into odd bedfellows, but this is an entirely new realm. Please tell me that is what your people know of him. That he's the father of a wolf, somehow.
But to answer to your question, yes, Loki, God of Mischief, is indeed here with us. Though he, like me, has been stripped of his powers.
We should lock up all the wolves in the area, lest we suddenly see hideously half-human/half-wolf hybrids running around. I wonder if his attraction extends to all beasts.

[ And then they hit on the subject of Loki, and— ]
Not an actual wolf!! The mother was a giantess, if I remember the stories correctly? I'm not sure exactly how that worked out that the son was a wolf, though. The actual weirder tale is one where he turned into a mare and gave birth to an eight-legged horse. I think the father actually was a stallion in that case.
I am... guessing that, maybe, our sagas got it a little wrong ???
[ Brig's trying to be polite, but she is cracking the fuck up. ]

The more you relay the stories your people have of my brother, the better they become.
He helps father a giant wolf with a GIANTESS, though no one is sure how it is that their offspring turned out a wild CANINE. AND he turned into a horse — a MARE no less — and somehow became impregnated with an eight-legged horse??????????????????????? OUR FATHER WOULD BE HORRIFIED IF THAT IS HOW HE WAS TO BECOME A GRANDFATHER!
My belly hurts from laughter!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am like this: XD XD XD XD XD XD (you have to turn your head sideways to see that properly; the X is the eyes and the D is the laughing mouth). I MUST RELAY THESE STORIES TO MY BROTHER. YOUR SAGAS ARE WONDERFUL, AND I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR MORE OF THEM.

There's one where a giant stole your hammer, and demanded Freya as a prize. But to sneak around it, the gods dressed you up in a dress, sent you to the wedding with Loki as your bridesmaid, and played along with the disguise until you got hold of Mjolnir and could fight your way back out. Did that actually happen??
Fondly: Brigitte

I was about to ask if there were any legends about me that you could share. Hopefully not ones in which I father ridiculous creatures that would make my father banish me for a second time.
[It takes him a few minutes to finish his message because he can't stop laughing.]
What an adventure!!! It sounds like a very good time! Unfortunately, nothing like that has happened to me. I don't know who "Freya" might be? Unless I have ANOTHER sister I do not yet know of (I really, really, really hope that is not the case). I bet I looked stunning in a wedding dress! :D

But: no trysts with animals, thankfully. That I know of.
[ It's still slightly bizarre, sharing these stories that are ostensibly about him and his brother -- her mother had read them to her as a child, and now here she is comparing notes with the actual god. ]

I would be disappointed in a bride who couldn't eat an entire ox by herself. It's a point of pride for we Asgardians! How else do you think our feasts have acquired such legendary tales?
And Loki going along with the plan with absolutely nothing in it to gain for himself???????? This is indeed a tale I must remember to tell him later on, as I'm sure I will have to remind him of this lesson many times over before either of us manage to leave the village.
... In addition to all of his strange bestiality and non-human offspring. Because those are tales that I will gladly tell whomever will listen for here into eternity. Those are magnificent.

:D That is how that makes me feel! I'm so happy to have been able to make you laugh! I know that life here can be tough sometimes, and I know that it's easy to get sad about things. I consider you a friend, and I hope that you feel free to consider me the same!
And since you're my friend, I don't want you to be sad!
You, too, have brought me great laughter! These stories that you know of me and my family are some of the most fascinating and hilarious things I've ever heard. Please, know that you can tell me ANY of them, especially about my brother, whenever you want.

And of course I consider you a friend. Technically kind of a coworker, sure, but more importantly a friend.

You could always come up with some of your own! Or perhaps we can spin some tales together, purely for the sake of entertainment! Loki will be less enthused, but then again, he always is when it comes to things like having fun.
[Thor loves his brother, really.]
Yes, a coworker and a friend. :) I like to think of it as we are friends who also happen to work together. Sort of like how me and Bruce and me and Tony are!

I do try to be as friendly as I can with as many people as I can! Why not? The more friends has, the more allies one has! Plus, it's nice to have lots of friends. :) As you can imagine, living in Asgard, we are always surrounded by people. It's weird to be so alone now.
Tony and I had a rough beginning when we first met, but I think we can safely say that we're friends now. Which is very good! I'm very happy for it. We were on this team called the Avengers together. We were sort of put in charge of saving Earth a few times. It was me, Tony, Bruce, Natalie, Steve (who isn't here anymore), and Clint (who I'm told used to be here some time ago).
[No need to mention that his brother was the reason they'd been called together in the first place ..]
We were a very good team! We all had our own strengths and abilities, so we balanced each other out very well, I think.
